Cosmetology Program Overview

Our owner, Nathan, has poured his extensive beauty industry expertise into designing a cosmetology program that prepares students for a successful career. Far from teaching to an exam, the Nathan Layne Institute team ensures that foundational skills and cutting-edge techniques used in the real world are taught to all cosmetology students.

The cosmetology program at Nathan Layne Institute consists of 1,600 training hours over 54 weeks, covering a broad set of skills you can rely on in your future career, including hair cutting, styling, tinting, and coloring; performing manicures and pedicures; skincare, and hair removal.

In our teaching method, classroom learning is just one piece of the puzzle. Students at Nathan Layne Institute spend most of their time learning hands-on on our salon floor. In fact, the first 260 hours consist of introductory material and live model practice focused on getting students salon-ready as soon as possible.

Plus, we bring in industry experts and educators to hold seminars for our students as well as other learning opportunities that foster engagement and a leading edge in the field.

We send our students into the world with the tools they need to be confident, skilled professionals. From salon management to brand awareness, students have the opportunity to learn the business of beauty and other skills they can take with them for a lifetime, such as:

  • Networking
  • Business planning

Lash Extension Certification Course Option

As beauty trends evolve, so do the offerings at Nathan Layne Institute. With the explosive popularity of lash extensions in recent years, we now offer an optional Lash Extension Certification course to all of our current and future students.

This elective course allows students to expand their business offerings and income after graduation. Cosmetology grads who are certified to offer lash extensions to their clients often report that these services are lucrative, so it’s a wise investment for many of our students.
