Barber Program Overview

Barber school students can complete our 900-hour barber program – which is expected to take 31 weeks – as the key requirement to becoming a licensed barber in the state of Idaho.

Our professional program covers a wide range of topics, including:

  • Haircut and shaving techniques
  • Facial hair grooming
  • Scalp treatments
  • Waxing
  • Anatomy
  • Sanitation and infection control
  • Customer service

After completing introductory theory coursework, our barber students jump into hands-on practice. Once our students gain some skills and confidence, we introduce them to working with customers in our full-service salon. You’ll have the guidance and oversight of an experienced, licensed barber, as well as access to Nathan Layne Institute’s full line of hair and beard care products.

Cosmetology to Barber Crossover Program

If you already have your cosmetology training and want to add on barber skills to expand the services you offer your clients, we offer a cosmetology-to-barbering crossover program. Over this 100-hour (5-week) crossover program, you’ll learn just those additional skills for your Idaho barber board exams. You won’t waste time sitting through the general beauty skills and theory you already know.

With this fast-track program, your road to an additional license may be shorter than you realize. Ask our admissions team about this crossover program today!
